Hello friend of Veridian,

To kick off 2021, learn more about our multilingual newspaper archives and meet one of our team members, Ryan.
Digital diversity: Veridian multilingual newspaper archives
It’s true that Veridian software serves a niche market, that of digital newspaper collections, as we enjoy working within this specialist field. It’s ever-evolving and each newspaper digitization project has unique characteristics and complexities. We’re kept on our toes and we like it that way.

The language or languages a digital collection is presented in can contribute to greater access for a more diverse audience. As such, we’re excited to take on projects that embrace multilingual functionality, which Veridian is natively designed to support.

By making it easy for a visitor to navigate a collection website in their chosen language we can increase the likelihood of engagement, and there’s no doubt that making more linguistically diverse newspapers available online will benefit researchers worldwide.

Read on to learn more about how we implement multilingual collections, and recent multilingual newspaper collections we have worked on.

Our Team - Meet Ryan
Ryan is one of our newest Veridian recruits, joining the team as a software engineer in 2020 after an influx of new projects required all hands on deck.

Ryan recently graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Waikato. He assists with regular Veridian software upgrades, customizations and support tasks.

What has been the highlight of your first year at Veridian?

I think the best thing about working at Veridian is that I’m able to work and learn at the same time. As much as University is a great place to learn, the Veridian workplace has allowed me to expand a huge amount of my computer science knowledge and everyone in the office is always eager to help and guide me. This has been the first time that I’ve had the opportunity to work with digital collections and I’ve gained a lot from it so far.
