Customization: Adding value and features to digital collections Recent Upgrades: California Digital & Papakilo Hawaiian Newspaper Collections
Hello friend of Veridian, This month, learn how two upgraded Veridian collections were specially customized. One has premium membership to help funding of the collection, and the other has enhanced statistics to support text
correctors.
Veridian Customization: Adding value and new features to your digital collection
The Veridian platform helps libraries and cultural heritage institutions create rich digital collections. We keep working with our customers to develop their collections into the future. This includes the option to commission customized solutions to suit the changing needs of your organization.
Adding a paywall to help with funding
Growing and maintaining a digital collection can be an expensive exercise. For a very large archive like the California Digital Newspaper Collection, managing and safekeeping the collection requires a substantial investment in hardware and personnel.
To help ease the funding pressure, we developed a'Premium Account'feature for the CDNC. This gives users the option of paying an annual fee to access additional features to explore the content. Extra funds raised through the premium account feature will help fund the future of this much utlized newspaper collection.
User Text Correction Statistics
The Papakilo Hawaiian Newspaper Collectionhas hundreds of users who help with text correction to improve the quality of the collection. Veridian engineers have developed a new feature which gives statistics on the amount of completed text correction work. These statistics are available at the entire collection level, publication level or for a single newspaper or article.
Perhaps the most significant UTC enhancement is the new page called 'Recommended items to be corrected'.This page allows users to view current articles / pages / documents in various states of completion. This helps the text corrector community work together to complete various parts of the collection. If you'd like to discuss adding this exciting new feature to your Veridian collection email us atcontact@veridiansoftware.com

California Digital Newspaper Collection
CDNC is one of the largest Veridian collections, containing 4.1 million pages!
It includes significant historical California newspapers published from 1846-present, including the first California newspaper, the Californian, and the first daily California newspaper, the Daily Alta California. It also contains issues of several current California newspapers that are part of a project to preserve and provide access to contemporary papers.
